Professional experienceLet me tell you this: If it’s a matter of hosting events, I’d say that I have quite a number of experiences already prior to becoming a professional one. I can vividly remember that my first time to host an event was for a school affair back in college at Assumption College of Davao.
If you are an Assumptionista, you are likely to develop a repertoire of skills such as emceeing for an event. Expectedly, when you enroll to a communication-related course such as Education (major in English), you would really be asked to face the crowd and deliver a good show. That’s exactly how it all started.
If my memory serves me right, while still a student, I was able to host for more than 10 events at the college. The one that I can never forget was for our intramural fiesta. It was unforgettable because I’d say that’s one of the most challenging hosting stints that I had — not to mention the electricity was out for almost half an hour — but still, the show had to go on!
As soon I got my first teaching job at Mandug Christian Development and Training Center, I was oftentimes the one who’s asked to emcee for school affairs such as monthly programs, convocation of honors, commencement exercises, and even teachers’ day. When I got back to my college alma mater (as a senior high school instructor), I also emceed for various events — especially for the commencement exercise.
